Course Description: Climate systems, global energy balance, radiation balance, surface energy balance, mean zonal circulation, hydrological cycle, ocean general circulation, climate sensitivity, earth system models, regional climate models and introduction to RegCM, climate change projections.

Competences

At the end of this course, students who successfully pass this course should be able to
I. Understand the fundamental principles of the science contained in different complexity of
climate models.
II. Understand the strength and weaknesses of different complexity models for different
climate research problems.
III. Analyze the stability and consistency of finite different methods for staggered horizontal
grid structures.
IV. Learn how a regional climate model is implemented, conduct a simulation and analyze the
results.
