Course Description

The goal of this course is to acquire knowledge of the basics of geotechnical design, geotechnical approaches according to Eurocode 7, requirements of the contents of infrastructural and structural plans, methodology of soil borings and complex laboratory tests, evaluation of in-situ tests results, design optimization of large-scale geotechnical projects, soil anchor and soil nail design, jet-grouting technology and its design, design and qualification of subgrades and subbases, design of monitoring systems and design based on observation.

Competences

student is capable of recognizing geotechnical problems,can categorize geotechnical problems,capable of preparing a geotechnical plan, and wording its required content, capable of determining the type, number and depth of necessary geotechnical explorations incase of a geotechnical problem, can provide soil properties based on direct and indirect geotechnical explorations, knows how to dimension soil anchors and soil nails,can perform the thickness calculation of subgrades and base layers and define properly their material,knows how to prepare jet?grouting plan,capable of setting up monitoring systems, and performing design based on those, has good verbal communication and technical writing skills.
