Land Use and Transportation Planning

Course Description: Urban functional areas, travel demand between these areas trip generation and attraction centers. Travel characteristics purpose volume, frequency. Urban passenger movements and distribution of goods in urban region daily, weekly and seasonal changes. Space requirements for moving and waiting traffic in different urban areas. Pedestrian movements. Transport studies traffic control mechanisms. Principles and constraints of transportation planning. Planning process, definition of study area and zones, inventories, transport models. Evaluation of management systems and transport investment decisions public participation and decision making. Course Objectives: Grasp the foundations of land use and transport interaction. Evaluate the relationships between transportation modes and spatial functions. Grasp the importance of integration among the modes of transport in urban areas. Be aware of environmental and social dimensions in transportation-land use interaction. Be able to evaluate the policies of transportation-land use planning in different urban areas.
