Description
This is a fundamental subject for engineers, and especially materials engineers. Briefly, we teach students the basic skills to be able to implement and solve equations, mathematical problems and simple physical/engineering models using a computer and a programming language, in this case MATLAB. The particular objectives are: ? _Learning the fundamentals of computer programming: mathematical operations, loops, conditionals, etc. ? _Introduction to a specific math-oriented programming language: Matlab/Octave ? _Learning and programming of some basic algorithms for solving algebraic equations, numerical integration, etc. ? _Introduction to Monte Carlo (probabilistic) based simulation methods ? _Introduction to the numerical resolution of Ordinary Differential Equations: heat equation, Newton equations… ? _Introduction to the Finite Element Method and its implementation in a programming language, etc.
