Course Description
The subject provides theoretical and practical knowledge on the chapters of physical chemistry related to „change”. The rates of processes, as well as equilibrium electrochemistry are discussed. The three main chapters of physical chemistry II are Reaction Kinetics, Transport Processes and Electrochemistry.

Prerequisites
Mathematics: functions, logarithms, derivation and integration (basics), total differential. Chemistry: stoichiometry, electrochemistry, structure of atoms and molecules. Physical chemistry: open, closed and isolated systems. State functions, path functions. Exten-sive and intensive properties. Internal energy. The first law of thermodynamics. Expansion work. Molar heat capacity. Enthalpy. Reaction enthalpy, standard reaction enthalpy, standard enthalpy of formation. Hess’s law. Entropy, change of entropy in closed systems. The second law of thermodynamics. Helmholtz energy, Gibbs energy. p-T phase diagram. The variation of vapor pressure with temperature. The chemical potential. The phase rule of Gibbs. Raoult’s law. Equilibrium constant. Relation between the equilibrium constant for a reaction and its standard reaction Gibbs energy. Effect of pressure on equilibrium. Le Chatelier´s principle. Temperature dependence of the equilibrium constant.
