The Chair of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Science of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) is actively engaged in fundamental and translational research. As part of the cassava research, the group of Prof. Dr. Uwe Sonnewald and Dr. Wolfgang Zierer is working to increase the yield of cassava storage roots. This research is embedded in the Cassava Source-Sink Project and aims to achieve significant improvements by specifically targeting the structural and metabolic processes of cassava growth.

Your tasks:

  • Analysis of transgenic cassava plant lines in greenhouses and controlled field trials
  • Refinement of concepts for subsequent iterations of plant development
  • Conducting experiments to investigate plant architecture and root development
  • Documentation and presentation of research results
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and scientists from various fields
  • Participation in travel, training, and scientific exchange
  • Contribution to the development of new methods and techniques in plant research

Your profile:

  • Completed PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • Strong interest in plant architecture and root development
  • Commitment to a successful career in research, development, or education
  • Team-oriented, independent working style with a high level of initiative
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific exchange
